Yorkley Court: Food Sovereignty in the Forest of Dean

We are recruiting for a team wolf-like activists that want to be involved in an exciting new project that challenges land rights and the status quo to promote food sovereignty in the Forest of Dean.

Yorkley Court

9-22 July

Yorkley Court is a grass roots project in Yorkley, near Lydney. We are creating a multifaceted project on an unused, unregistered, unowned piece of land. The project promotes ideas of a home cooperative, community land trust and community supported agriculture in conjunction with art and education to create a vibrant community hub.

This project is in its early stages so there is a lot of work to be done. You will need to bring camping equipment, wellies, any special food requirement stuff and a willingness to work. We will eat a largely vegan diet with skipped dairy and, if we’re lucky, game to supplement.

Come between the 9th to 22nd of July.

We currently keep pigs, bees and chickens. We are composting and practice no-dig bed growing. Come and learn permaculture techniques, foraging, growing and propagating, basic animal husbandry and natural building. Learn about our cob oven and compost toilet, help build a rocket stove shower and sing songs around the fires. We plan to run a permaculture design course in August or September and would love the chance to explore our teaching program with willing volunteers. This is a chance to come and learn about land activism, land rights, activism 101. We are building community links and plan to have a community open day on the 14th of July.
